Pinus kesiya

Botanical Description

Pinus kesiya is tall, monoecious evergreen tree. It grows to a height of 45 m and its bole is branchless for up to 20 m. It bears conical fruits after flowering.Its bright green needles aare long, erect  but soft in arrangements in fascicles of 2-4.

Medicinal Use

Along with all pine tree the resin that can be extracted  fron Pinus kesiya is very valuable and can be used as an antiseptic, diuretic and vermifuge as well as in the manufacturing of paper.

The resin, branches and wood can be used for kidney and bladder conditions. The stems can be used in a stean bath while the resin  can be mixed  into a lotion and used as a topical for burns, wounds, and sores. Pinus kesiya can also be very good for the body respiratory system because can be used in treating diseases in the mucous membranes as well as a remedy for a cough or for throat irritations.

Other Use

The wood of Pinus kesiya iwas used in  match box manufacture  in Rwanda. In others countries the wood of Pinus kesiya is used for construction, boxes,flooring, ceiling, paneling, joinery, furniture, poles, aand mine props. It is also suitable for ship and boat building, agricultural implements, turney, veneer, plywood, and railway sleepers.
