Botanical Description

Herbaceous plant, erected ascendant, more often diffuse, sometimes vine wich can reach 1.5 m long. Leaves opposite, petiole up to 2.5 cm long, lamina broadly oblong or elliptic ovate, acuminate or rounded at apex, subcordate at base, grabrous or densely hairy.  Inflorescence terminal, spike-like in densely cymose clusters. Medicinal Use

In Rwanda the leaves  are used in traditional medicine  against skin burning and poisoning.The tuberous roots are pounded and mixed with water  and the decoction  taken for both fever and malaria. It acts both as an emetic and purgative. Root tubers are also known to be eaten  for stomach troubles. In the Southern Province, Misago Matthias a TMP macerets Cyathula schimperana and Crotalaria incana to treat mennhoragia.  Accoring to Mitali Emmanuel a TMP from the Western Province leaves Cyathula schimperana are used in the treatment of bones diseases such as osteoporosis.
