Creeping or climbing, diffuse herb which can reach several meters long. Inflorescence terminal, spike-like forming a globose head, in densely cymose cluster. The greenish flowers are grouped in glabrous cymose, composed of solitary subspheric capitulatopped a long pedoncule.Fruits are ovate capsule.
In Rwanda,the leaves are used in traditional medicine to treat wounds, diarrhea, dehydrogenation and infertility .
In Uganda, the roots are used by barren women to induce pregnancy. It is also used as an emetic. In both cases the roots are boiled and the decoction is drunk 2-3 times a day. Fruits are also used for the treatment of abdominal pains.
