Bushy plant  of 1-3m tall; squared  section, tomentose - pubescent.  to glabrous stem. Leaves have pubescent petioles of 0.5 -1.5 cm long The leaf blade is widely oval, acute to acuminate at the leaf apex. Elongated and loose cymose inflorescence often ramificated on the base,whorls of flowers more or less spaced.

The present investigation revealed that the extract of ocimum lamifolium leaves  are potent antimicrobial activity which explains its use in traditional system of medicin. Hence, Ocimum lamifolium can be employed as  a source of  natural antimicrobials that can serve as an alternative to conventional medicines. In African traditional medicine, it is used for treating whooping cough and various type of  fever. A leaf decoction is used to treat coughs in West Africa.
