Geographic Distribution:Woodless one in mountain forest, and in humidzone in mountain forest, along stream and swamp edges, 1900 – 2500 m.

Botanical Description

Tall straight stemmed evergreen tree of 7-25 m of height, Sessile long and large leaves, or seldom petiolated (2cm long)grouped in terminal cluster on the top of the tree.  Large Leaf blade oblanceolate to  widely obvale  measures  20 – 100cm long and 8 – 40 cm wide, The veins are all visible. Inflorescences of 20 – 40 cm long with odorant flowers.

 

Medicinal Use

In  south Africa the tree is valued for its medicinal properties. The leaves and bark are used to brew a tea to treat malaria, and bark is chewed to treat diarrhea, and used to treat diabetes, heigh blood pressure and venereal disease. In the Congo the leaf and leaf ash is used to treat wounds of teats. In Zimbabwe bark decoctions are used as an emena to treat epilepsy. In South Africa bark are taken to treat diabetes, high blood pressure and venereal diseases,

 

Other Use

The wood is used as fuel, the flowers are sweet smelling
