Botanical Description

Shrub  or sarmentaceous ligneous plant of 1 -8 m high; shrub with thorny bark. Presence of lenticels on the branches  covered with  tomenta on them. Leaves having a petiole of 1.5-4  cm long with  sessile lateral leaflets ; The limb is spear shaped, oblong- obval to oblong- elliptic. The flowers are in a pyramidal panicle inflorescence of 12 cm long

Medicinal Use

The roots are pounded and steeped in hot orcold water and the extract drunk for influenza, abdominal pains and for gonorrhea. The root decoction also forms  part of a medicine for hookworm. The leaves are used as a cough mixture; They are pounded and steeped in hot water and the patient drinks the extract. Sometimes the steam from the hot leaf extract inhaled to cure colds.
