Botanical Description

Liana of many meters long, with opposite leaves. It is find in thicket, savanna, mountain forest.

 

 

Medicinal Use

leaves are used as abortive.The roots are used in small quantities as a purgative, taenifuge and cathartic. The roots are dug and pounded, a little is mixed with water and the extract drunk daily. This is for the treatment of roundworm and tapworm. A decostion of the roots is also drunk to cause vomiting, for the treatmentof enlarged glands. The roots are used as to cure venereal diseases, particularly syphilis. The roots are boiled and the decoction drunk. In some people this causes vomiting, but if this should cause diarrhea, then it is a sign of an overdose and the patient should  immediately be given fresh milk . We must however, bear in mind that the plant, especially the leavesand roots, is  very toxic and must be used in very small amounts.
