Botanical Description

Rhizome erect or  shortly creeping. Leaves erect, up to 50-150 cm long, usually without bulbils, petiole straw-colored, up to 60 cm long, lamina subcoriaceous,ovate to ovate-lanceolate,2-pinnatipartite, pinnules oblong 7-14.5 cm long and 1.5-3 cm wide. Ultimate lobes 0.6-1.5 cm long and 0.25-0.5 cm wide with only a fewteeth. Veins free.

 

 

Medicinal Use

In Rwanda, Pteris pterdioides leaves decoctions are used in the treatment of amnesia and roots are involved in the treatment of bronchitis (Mukire J. D.).  In North Eastern India, fresh fronds are used as poultice for boils; rhizome is used as anthelmintntic in china, as cure for intestinal wounds. Fronds are also  used for urinary bladder complaints in india and polyneisa and as a diaphoretic, aromatic  and aoerative in phillipines.
