Botanical Description
Perennial herb with erected stems up to 1-4 m tall, usually richly branched, glabrous often covered with epicuticuliar waxes. Leaves alternate, up to 40 cm long, 3-4 - pinnate, leaflets elliptic-oblong to broadly ovate, often trilobed at apex,. Inflorescence a lax many-flowered panicle. Flowers greenish to purplish, tepals 0.15-0.4 cm long, stamens 0.8-1.7 cm long. Fruit with 1-2 nuts up to 0.6-1.1 cm long.
Medicinal Use
In Rwanda, the entire plant is used in traditional medicine to treat amoebic dysentery, the leaves are furthermore used against hepatitis and snakes bites.
In Uganda,root decoction used as a pergatve and as an expectorant. Leaf juice used for the treatment of hepatc diseases.
