Bushy herb of 1.5 m of height, with a unique ligneous stem. The leaves are sessile 3- 5 on a same whorl, seldom opposite. The leaf limb is elliptic, elliptic to spear shaped, etc. The inflorescence is axillary and terminal of 20 – 30 white yellow flowers.
In East African countries, roots are used to cure pumples. The roots are normally pounded, mixed with som ghee and rubbed on the pumples.
