Botanical Description

Nicotiana tabacum, or cultivate tobacco, is an annuall-grown herbaceous plant. It is found only In cultivation, where it is the most commonly grown of all plants in the genus Nicotiana, and its leaves are commercially grown in many countries to be processed into Tobacco.

 

Medicinal Use

Wet tobacco leaves can be applied to stings in order to relieve the pain. They are also a certain cure for painful piles. A homeopathic remedy is made from the dried leaves. It is used  in the treatment of nausea and travel sickness.

Nicotine is an alkaloid commonly occurring in tobacco plant. At larger doses it is used as

insecticides.

Other Use

Dried leaves are used to manufacture cigarettes, cigars, snuff, forsmoking in pipes

                   or for chewing.
