Perennial herb   which has many stems. The branches and the leaves and the berries are  blackish.

The row fruit is chewed and swallowed for treatment for stomach,  ulcersor for general  abdominal upsets , leading to a continued stomach-ache. The infusion of  leaves and seeds, is rubbed onto the gums pf children in cases of the development of  crooked teeth. pounded leaves  ar soaked in water, fermented and used for the treatment of boils, ulcers, and awollen glands.

The leaves are consumed as vegetables.
