Botanical Description
A shrub of 2-3 m tall. Young branches covered with a rouset tomentum, old branches provided with glabrous thorns of 7 mm long. leaves in pairs covered with a tomentum and little thorns. The lamina is pennatiloded of 20 cm long. The fruits are berries.
Medicinal Use
Solanum torvum has both a sedative and a diuretic therapeutic effect. The leaves are used as a haemostatic. Phytochemical studies indicated that the fruits of this species have as good concentration of various alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins,and glycusides as sufficient to have pharmacological effects.
