Botanical Description

Erected  or sarmentaceous  shrub sometimes vine or robust herb that can reach 0.50 -5 m of height. It is covered with  a tomentun of  starred or simple hairs. The leaves alternate, simple,  stipules triangular, densely stellate-hairy, blade elliptical to almost orbicular, almost unlobed to 3(-5)-lobed with a central lobe 2.5-4.5.cm long, the base  cordate, rarely obtuse, apex acuminate to acute, margine doubly toothed.  Inflorescence terminal, with5-10 ultimate branches 5-35 cm long, each with nodes 8-20 mm apart, each nodes bearing 3-10 cymes. Flowers are bisexuals regular pedicel up to 3mm long. Ovary superior 4-5- locular. Fruit is a dehiscencent, almost spherical capsule 7-15 mm in diameter including bristles.

 

Medicinal Use

Leaf decoction or fresh juice is used for the treatment of hepatic diseases.

Other Use

The bark of the stem and branches  yield  a fiber for making strong rope, bowstring and fishing lines.
