Botanical Description

Galinsoga parviflora is an herbaceous plant in the Asteraceae family. It grows to a height of 75 cm. It is a branched herb with opposite stalked leaves, toothed at the margins. The flowers are in small heads. The central disc florets are yellow and tubular

Medicinal Use

In the northern of Rwanda the whole plant is used to cure  stress. In Uganda, the stems and leaves of this plant are chewed to cure colds, or sores.Galinsoga parviflora is called Gallant soldier. It is used for the treaement of nettle stings and  smilar skin inflammation by rubbing the affected skin with leaves,  The leavea are used  for wound dressing in Ethiopia.

The plant is used in traditional preparation for wound healing as  well as the treatment of blood coagulation problems, cold, flu, toothache, and dermatological and eye diseases.  The healing properties of Galinsoga parviflora are due to the presence of diverse secondary metabolites

Other Use

The plant is grazed  by livestock and used as a feed, for chicken , rabbits,and pigs
