Botanical Description

Creeping succulent herb, stems much branched, up to 2-10 m long, glabrous, leaves alternate, petiole 2.5-6.5 cm long, lamina ovate to suborbicular, acute or acuminate at apex. Inflorescence an axillary spike. Flowers white or pinklish,0.4-0.5 cm long. Perianth 5-lobed, fleshy, not opening. Fruit a berry up to 0.5 cm in diameter, red,white or black

Medicinal Use

The leaves and stems are traditionally used as an abortifacient agent and to treat snake bites.

The leaves  and stems are eaten as  vegetable
