Geographic Distribution:Eastern Rwanda between 1000 – 1450 m above sea level. In other areas, is cultivate as an avenue ornamental tree.

Botanical Description

The tree grows up to 20 m heigh. Branchs are covered with lenticels. The leaves are  imparipinnate made up with 9 0r 13-15 leaflets or folioles. The flowers are in a dense terminal racemose. Flowers have a bell shaped whith a red calyx linedwith a yellow color. The fruits are fusiform capsules.

Medicinal Use

The bark is of medicinal value. It is chewed and  sprayed  over swollen  cheeks, the bark may also be boiled in water and newly born babies bathed in the mixture to heal body rashes.
