Perennial herb, stems prostrate to ascending, quadrangular, with dichasial ramifications up to 100 cm long, glabrous, the whole plant often bluish-green by epicuticular waxes. Leaves opposite, petiole o.2 t0 0.7 cm long, stipules interpetiolar 0.1 cm long, with 5 sublate segments, lamina avate to broadly ovate, acute to rounded at apex, cordate to pinate at base up to 1 cm long and 0.6 cm wide. Inflorescence a lax dichasial, axillary or terminal cyme. Flower with 5 greenish sepals up to 0.5 cm long and 5 white petals up to 0.3 cm long. Fruit a capsule up to 0.5 cm long.
The entire plant is used in Rwandan traditional medicine to treat otitis media.The leaves are used against poisoning. In East African countries, the herb is roasted on a sheet of an iron and the fumes inhaled to alleviate the headache. The leaves can be dried powdered and smoked like a cigarette for chest complaints
