Beta vulgaris is an erect, biennial plant producing a rosette of leaves from a swollen rootstock. It grows around 60 cm tall, with a flowering stem that can be 150 cm or more tall.
The root is used in natural medicines. Beets are used along with medications in the treatment of liver diseases and faty liver. They are also used to help lower lever of triglycerides (a type of fat) in the blood, lower blood pressure, and to improve athletic performance.
